What happens in Vegas...

...stays in Vegas

unless you manage to break your wrist and come home in a cast and a distal radius fracture in your right wrist! yes folks...i am right handed and this SADLY is my colouring wrist!

this pic was taken in the hospital waiting room! yes, that is a smile, but i was really doing my best to put on a brave front in the midst of level 8 pain and a hubby who was feeling as bad (or worse) than me! do you have any idea how much a wrist fracture hurts! after asking for morphine i actually fainted! and i'm a pretty tough cookie when it comes to pain!

i got some x-rays which confirmed the break and they stabilized the arm for the rest of the trip.
generally with this type of fracture they don't do anything until the swelling subsides so i was in no immediate need of further care and could suck it up and enjoy the rest of the trip. which i did!

next day we spent the afternoon at the spa in ceasars palace and for 50 lustrous minutes (and 3 times that much money!) i forgot my wrist was broken! heaven i tell you! pure heaven! that evening we ventured to freemont street where i played blackjack at a table for my first time EVAH! i came out 50 bucks ahead and that made me happy since i am NOT an aggressive gambler. a bit more shopping (MUCH less than i would normally do) and a show rounded out the trip.

in case you are wondering... the wrist was broken on a FREAK fleight line (zip line) accident...even the hospital confirmed that this has never happened. everyone was wonderful and i can't thank enough the folks at bootleg canyon and st. rose dominican hospital for their care! they were all wonderful, especially casey who wanted to carry me down the canyon! crap...his adrenaline must have been really flowing just in order to pick me up!

today i saw the orthopedic surgeon and we have opted to go ahead with surgery and reset the wrist. surgery or not, i'd be in a cast for 6-8 weeks so might as well get it fixed now.

sadly, (VERY SADLY!) my colouring days will be on the back burner for the next few weeks until i get use of my hand back! but I WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise! and i will be back colouring up stamping bella and mo goodness!!!!!!!

until then...i guess i'll be doing puzzles! thanks kath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Linda, your Copic hand too. But it's not just the crafting, although that's really important it's all the other things like not being able to drive, and getting dressed is a nightmare. Yes... I speak whereof I know because I broke my wrist (the left one) on the steps of the Library of Congress about 4 years ago while on holiday in the States. So have a very good recovery and rest it well. Good luck with the op. I like everyone else will miss the inspiration and look forward eagerly to your next crafting post.

Have a hug xxx

Now you see...this is just one more reason for me to park my butt in front of a Top Dollar machine (MY personal favorite slot machine) and not move. All other activities can be hazardous to your health!

Seriously...hope you are feeling better and your road to recovery is a quick and painless one!

How awful!!!!! Pain...and you can't even color to make you feel better:( {{{{{Linda}}}}} Get lots of books, videos and comfort food and then relax. Hope you feel better soon i.e. 6 rather than 8 weeks!

Oh I DO know how much it hurts to break A WRIST AND TRY AN ANKLE AT THE SAME TIME! A month ago I got bucked off a young horse. STILL type one handed, left handed stamping can work but no coloring. I was a 9 close to 10 in pain scale..I had kids with no drugs, 1st one was 8 lb 6 oz. 3 days in hospital, 3 screws and wire in ankle and still might have to plate wrist. I'm still not able to put weight on foot so getting around is very hard, DH burned up most of his vacation taking care of me...it can be worse!

LORi said...

OH My Goodness Linda!! I am so sorry to read this!! I will be praying for your speedy, complete and pain free recovery!!

Hugs and Blessings - LORi

Linda, you can continue your pity party...we can have it together! This not stamping is the worst. Oh and the worst pain IMAGINABLE is when they tried to pull off my boot with my broken ankle and I was SCREAMING "CUT THE *%#$ OFF, I DON'T CARE" and you know it was bad cause I love those boots..But they did cut IT (still hurt getting it off) and DH got it fixed. Guy asked how bad I was hurt. Oh and I still have the horse.

I read about this on Paula's blog, Linda. So sorry to hear about your freakish accident. Will have to keep remembering you as you go a little bit nutty not being able to color along with many other things. Will look forward to hearing the inventive ways you come up with trying to cope with this thing!! Keep well...You know, David Beckham has his legs insured for some astronomical figure and he isn't allowed doing a lot of things like, skiing or skating. Hmmm I wonder if Stamping Bella would insure your hands and forbid you from activities like zip lining and such...!!! Just a thought!!!

Oh, you poor thing!
I did the exact same thing in November 2008, fractured my right wrist (and I'm right handed too).

6 weeks in the cast, and I tell you, it hurt soooo bad after I got the cast off, I wasn't prepeared for that, so now you know... :o)

(I haven't been ice skating since I fell that day!)

Hope you heal well, and that you do not have much pain!

Hugs,
Aud
